Intruoduction To Travel Tourism

Globally, tourism is the single largest industry in the world. It is one of the most dynamic and vibrant sectors of the World economy. Tourism is becoming increasingly important socially, economically, and environmentally as it continues to develop throughout the world .It is among the top three industries of many countries.Today more than two thirds of employment and national income generation in the industrialized countries is attributed not to industry or agriculture but to the service sector. The World Tourism Organization (WTO) estimates that some 20 percent of the workers today are employed in tourism related service.Tourism has proven to be one of the few dynamic job creators both in developed and developing countries and in nations with high level of development and income. The government has accorded tourism as a high priority sector of national economy, basically in view of its employment generation and foreign exchange earning potentials, tourism should harness human resource in Nepal. Moreover, to be able to catch our deserving share of benefit from tourism, importance of education and raising the service standard to be competitive enough, we require training institutions in the country at all levels.
Nepal has been declared as “second ultimate destination “after new Zealand by Wanderlust. The urgency of education and proficiency building of human resource in the diverse areas of tourism is also evidenced by the fact that there was no institution in the country till the establishment of Nepal College of Travel and Tourism Management (NCTTM), which provides travel and tourism as a career building course at graduation level. With inclusion of diversities of discipline in the area of tourism studies NCTTM has put in pioneering efforts.
Internationally, travel and tourism is the largest industry in terms of employment to an extent that one out of every eight workers is engaged in this sector. Tourism accounts for over 10% of global workforce. Tourism sector is expected to provide employment to 10,383 million people by 2007. It is an established fact that receipt from international tourism, excluding airfares accounted for USS 444.7 billion in 1998.
